The Institute of Chartered Accountants in Malawi (ICAM) is delighted to welcome all delegates to this year’s Lakeshore Conference, scheduled to run from 19th to 21st September 2024. As the Institute's largest gathering, we are proud to host over 1,200 members from various sectors across the country.
This is not just another lake conference. It is a call to action. H. Arthur Otto wrote ‘’ We are all functioning at a small fraction of our capacity to live life fully, it its total meaning of loving, caring, creating and adventuring. Consequently, the actualizing of our potential can become the most exciting adventure of our lifetime’’. The conference comes at a pivotal time for Malawi's economy, which faces significant challenges that demand resilience across all sectors. The theme : ‘"Navigating Economic Uncertainties: Strategies for Growth and Resilience," reflects our commitment to addressing these challenges head-on
Malawi has recently been impacted by shortage if not the absence of a value-adding economic backbone, severe food shortages in the southern region, a reliance on import-based economy which is highly affected by a devaluation of the Kwacha, and high inflation rates. Internationally, rising commodity prices and shipping costs have further eroded the economic progress we have worked so hard to achieve. In response, it is imperative that professionals from all fields, particularly in accountancy, lead the charge in finding sustainable solutions that will help revive our economy and steer it towards recovery
The Institute expects that this conference will serve as a crucial platform for members to engage, network, and collaborate. Malawi as a nation is not operating in a vacuum and is prone to shocks affecting near and far economies. As such, through these interactions, we hope to find a united path forward, one that reinvigorates our economy and keeps us on track towards achieving the goals outlined in the Malawi 2063 Vision.
This year, ICAM has assembled a diverse lineup of expert speakers who will guide the discussions.
